Terms & Conditions
The rules that apply to your rental, written in plain language.
Version 2 · last updated October 21, 2026These terms form the rental contract between you and us for every car booked through lemnoscarrental.com or at our desk. Please read them before you pay. The version in force when you book is recorded with your booking and is the one that applies to your rental.
1. Who we are
Lemnos Car Rental is the trading name of Vasileios Chletsos, son of Antonios (ΧΛΕΤΣΟΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΣ του ΑΝΤΩΝΙΟΥ), a sole trader established in Greece.
- Address: Moudros 81401, Lemnos, Greece
- VAT number (ΑΦΜ): 056450454, Tax office (ΔΟΥ): Mytilene
- General Commercial Registry (ΓΕΜΗ) number: 191311342000
- Email: bookings@lemnoscarrental.com, phone: +30 22540 72260
"You" means the person who makes the booking and every driver named on the rental agreement.
2. Booking and price
The price shown before you pay is the full price of your rental. It is in euro and includes VAT at the Greek rate, the cover described in section 6, unlimited mileage on Lemnos and roadside assistance, together with any extras, fees and charges you selected. Nothing that you have not seen and accepted will be added to it, except the charges this contract allows for things that happen during the rental (sections 5, 7, 8 and 10).
Your booking is confirmed when the online payment has gone through and you have received our confirmation email.
3. Payment
When you book online you pay by card either an advance of part of the rental price or the full price; the amount and the percentage are shown before you pay. The rest, if any, is paid when you collect the car, by card or in cash. Greek law does not allow us to accept more than €500 in cash for one transaction, so above that amount please pay by card.
Card payments are processed by Stripe and authenticated by your bank where the law requires it. We never see or store your full card number.
4. Drivers and documents
- Every driver must be at least 21 years old and must have held a valid, full driving licence for at least one year.
- Drivers aged 21 to 24 pay a young driver fee for each rental day. It is shown in the price before you pay.
- At pick-up every driver shows their own original driving licence and a passport or identity card, and the main driver shows the card used for the booking. If your licence was not issued in the EU or the EEA, you must also carry an International Driving Permit where Greek law requires it.
- Only the drivers named on the rental agreement may drive. Each additional driver is booked as an extra.
If a driver cannot show these documents we cannot hand over the car. That is treated as a late cancellation under section 11.
5. No security deposit
We do not hold a security deposit, whichever cover you choose: nothing is blocked on your card at pick-up.
Under this contract you remain responsible for:
- damage to the vehicle up to the excess of your cover, or in full where section 6 says the cover does not apply;
- missing fuel (section 8), late return (section 8) and cleaning beyond normal use;
- traffic and parking fines from your rental that are claimed from us (section 9).
We record the car's condition with photographs at pick-up and at return. Charges that are known when you return the car, such as missing fuel or a late return, are settled at the desk by card or in cash. For any other charge we send you an itemised statement, with photographs where relevant, within 14 days of the return (for fines, as soon as the authorities claim them from us), together with a link to pay it by card. You may contest it by replying to us. We do not charge your card for these amounts without your agreement.
6. Cover and your liability
Every rental includes the compulsory third-party liability insurance required by Greek law, fire and theft protection and a collision damage waiver. With the standard cover your liability for damage to the car and for its theft is limited to the excess stated in your booking. Full cover, where offered, reduces the excess to zero.
The cover does not limit your liability, and you pay the full cost of the damage or loss, where it was caused:
- deliberately or through gross negligence;
- by a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs above the legal limits, or by a driver not named on the agreement;
- by driving off sealed roads, on beaches or through water;
- by filling the wrong fuel, or by losing the keys;
- in breach of section 7.
7. Using the car
You must look after the car and drive it in line with the Greek Highway Code. The car may not be:
- used to carry passengers or goods for payment, to tow or push anything, in races or tests, or for driving lessons;
- sublet or lent to anyone not named on the agreement;
- taken off Lemnos, including on a ferry, without our written consent;
- smoked in.
8. Pick-up, return and fuel
Collect and return the car at the place and times in your booking. Collection or return outside the opening hours of the pick-up point, and return at a different point, may carry a fee; any such fee is shown before you pay.
The car is handed over with a full tank and must come back with a full tank. Missing fuel is charged at the pump price plus a refuelling charge, which we tell you at pick-up.
We allow a grace period of 60 minutes for late returns. After that a late return fee is charged for each extra hour started. If you will be late, please call us.
9. Fines, accidents and breakdowns
You are responsible for traffic and parking fines and tolls incurred during your rental. Where the authorities ask us who was driving, we give them the driver's details as the law requires. If a fine is claimed from us, we pass it on to you.
In an accident: call the police whenever someone is injured or the law requires it, complete a European Accident Statement where possible, take photographs, and call us straight away. Do not admit liability on our behalf. Theft must be reported to the police and to us immediately.
Roadside assistance is included throughout the rental. Call us before you arrange any repair. We reimburse repairs that we approved in advance.
10. If we cannot provide the car
If we cannot provide the car you booked, we will offer you a car of the same or a higher category at no extra cost. If that is not possible, or you do not accept it, we refund everything you have paid.
11. Changes and cancellation
You may change a confirmed booking yourself from your account before pick-up, as long as cars are available. If the new price is higher you pay the difference; if it is lower, the difference is not refunded.
To cancel, write to bookings@lemnoscarrental.com or call us:
- 48 hours or more before pick-up: we refund everything you paid online.
- Less than 48 hours before pick-up, or if you do not collect the car: we keep an amount equal to the online advance (the percentage of the rental price shown when you booked) and refund the rest of what you paid.
If you do not collect the car within 4 hours of the agreed time and do not contact us, the booking counts as not collected. Refunds go back to the card you paid with within 14 days.
Car rental for specific dates is excluded from the 14-day right of withdrawal for distance contracts (Article 16(l) of Directive 2011/83/EU, as transposed into Greek law by Law 2251/1994). These cancellation rules apply instead.
12. Our responsibility
We supply a roadworthy, properly insured and maintained car of the category you booked. We are liable under Greek law for loss we cause you. We are not liable for loss that was not foreseeable, such as missed flights or ferries, or for events outside our reasonable control, except where we acted deliberately or with gross negligence. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury, or any right you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded.
13. Personal data
How we use your personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
14. Complaints
Please tell us first. Most problems are solved with a phone call or an email to bookings@lemnoscarrental.com, and we answer written complaints within 14 days. If we cannot agree, you may contact the Hellenic Consumer Ombudsman (Συνήγορος του Καταναλωτή, www.synigoroskatanaloti.gr), an independent out-of-court dispute body. If you live in another EU country, the European Consumer Centre Greece (eccgreece.gr) can help.
15. Law, courts and language
These terms are governed by Greek law. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live. As a consumer you may bring proceedings in the courts of Greece or of the country where you live, and we may bring proceedings against you only in the courts of the country where you live.
These terms are available in Greek, English, German and Italian. If the versions differ, the Greek text prevails, unless another version is more favourable to you.
